A return to the Old World of Deathing by bridging holistic end-of-life care with traditional medical care by co-creating sacred space to pause, reflect, heal, and live as we die – being seen, being heard, and being accepted when our last breath arrives.

Clarity of Terms in Grief Work

Soul Midwife

As we move through life, we encounter joy, grief, happiness, and sorrow. Each of the emotions, and so many more, unfold along this journey. The soul resides deep within us yet the soul is vulnerable to the actions or in-actions that stir.

Here in this deep space, we encounter soulful wounds. At times, a companion to these emotions is summoned to “walk” these spaces in tandem with us.

A soul reset may facilitate the deep healing process. Exploring the tools that soothe the soul and bring clarity and peace to self is tending to the soul. Each of us needs the tendering of the soul.

You do not need to walk this journey alone. Releasing soulful wounds liberates the soul – especially at that moment of the last breath. As a soul midwife, I will accompany you, not push you, into spaces of healing the soul.

Grief Walker

Walking through grief in this life does not need to be a solo encounter. Grief Walkers are companions to grief and the sequelae that accompany spaces of despair, pain, and anxiety commonly experienced as we face uncertainty related to grief, illness, loss of control, and death.

Tending to the soulful wounds in life holds the possibility of the freeing of the soul and the birthing of a healing space as we learn to sit with grief, to befriend grief and to push past these human experiences of emotion that can unsettle and disrupt our daily lives.

Grief Walkers accompany you through the dark spaces that our society has conditioned us to fear, to avoid, and to avoid. It is through surrendering to grief that we learn to walk in peace toward our own death and the death of those whom we love.

 End-of-Life Doula

When we embrace the need to focus on the soul, our lives may intersect with others who hold space – in silence and in action – to care for the soul. Grief may open the pathway and calling for support.

This support may appear in the spiritual realm firmly anchored to one’s cultural, social, and collective identity.

Support may be needed in the physical space of daily living – oftentimes, by simply expressing the challenge and having trust in another to assist without judgement or degradation.

Finally, support may appear in the soulful space residing within each of us. Soulful space may be a silent nod, a locking of the eyes, a gentle nudge of encouragement, and a simple mirroring of breathing – breath-work in harmony, in tandem with another living being. This is the space of my vision as an End-of-Life Doula.

Legacy Projects

Legacy work is multifaceted. Embarking upon a legacy project signals an opening for one to find meaning, connect with loved ones, resolve uncertainty and heal space between the dying and the living. Sharing stories, experiences, and lifetime journeys brings value and clarity in one’s life, a sense of purpose for why we are here and how we transition during the last breath, and finally to honor those we leave here on Earth with the gift of “knowing” us as we depart from this life through artwork, song, poem, video – the possibilities are endless and are crafted by you and me – specific to your wishes and the needs of those whom you love in my role as a soul midwife, a grief walker, and an End-of-Life Doula. Your situation dictates how I show up in this final journey here on Earth. Let us explore this space together – in your home, in nature, alone or in community.

Prana. Breath = LifeForce. With each breath in, we are reminded of life-giving energy; with each exhale, we give thanks to and for this life-giving force. Each of us will experience a final breath, a last breath. what are you grateful for today? As a Soul Midwife, I’m full of gratitude, respect, and awe of this human experience called life.

The term “soul midwifery” is used to describe a compassionate, human-centered approach to care for the dying. It emphasizes the importance of meeting the individual where they are, treating them as a cherished friend, and focusing on their individual needs and preferences throughout their journey to the end of life

“A good death is an extraordinary, moving and sacred experience. It can also have a healing quality, not only for the person who is involved but their families, friends and the wider community.”

– Felicity Warner: ‘Gentle Dying’

People grieve a lost friendship or relationship at a level similar to the death of a close family member or friend -- and no matter what you’re grieving, other people may expect you to bounce back long before you’re ready

– Debbie Koenig

“Grief and love are sisters, woven together from the beginning. Their kinship reminds us that there is no love that does not contain loss and no loss that is not a reminder of the love we carry for what we once held close.”

– Francis Weller, The Wild Edge of Sorrow: Rituals of Renewal and the Sacred Work of Grief
